The relevance of this research is determined by the need for a systematic analysis of the specific characteristics of civil society institutions participation in ensuring various types of national security in contemporary conditions. The research is based on general scientific methods (analysis, synthesis, systems approach, extrapolation) and specific legal methods: formal legal, comparative legal, and historical legal analysis. The source base includes normative legal acts, the National Security Strategy of the Russian Federation, scholarly literature, as well as statistical and analytical data. The article identifies the main directions and forms of civil society institutions participation in ensuring state and public security, environmental security, economic security, and information security. Problems and contradictions in the activities of civil society institutions are revealed: insufficient resource provision, fragmentation of legislative regulation, risks of formalization of participation, and conflicts with state authorities. In the discussion it is demonstrated that the effectiveness of civil society institutions’ participation depends on the existence of a clear regulatory framework, adequate resource provision, and genuine involvement in decision-making processes, rather than merely in executive functions. It is concluded that civil society institutions exert multifaceted influence on various types of security that constitute Russia’s national security. Their participation contributes to the formation of a stable and balanced system for protecting individuals, society, and the state from threats emanating from different spheres of life. Prospects for further research are related to the development of criteria for assessing the effectiveness of civil society institutions’ participation in ensuring national security and improving the legislative regulation of their activities.
