The article deals with the state of legal ideology and its features as a set of legal ideas, views and concepts that prevailed in the public consciousness of Russia in the second quarter of the XIX century. The main content of the study is the theoretical and legal analysis of legal doctrines and views of M.M. Speransky, K.A. Nevolin, S.N. Ornatsky and other legal scholars, as well as representatives of Slavophilism – K.S. Aksakov and I.V. Kireyevsky. Historical analysis of the environmental factors that caused their emergence is carried out. The results of the research are the study and comprehension of the syncretic, metaphysical and contradictory nature of the legal ideology of the second quarter of the XIX century. Most of the legal ideas of this period are detached from the realities of the socio-political life of the country and its prospects, however, there is observed a system of legal principles that form the legal image of the Russian statehood as a monarchy limited by natural right and the law corresponding to it and acting as a continuation of the legal ideas of the early XIX century. The significance of the study is determined by the expansion of ideas about the development of legal consciousness of the Russian society, its results can be used in the analysis of the current state of legal consciousness and legal ideology.
